Grade 9

Applying for Fall 2022

A Day in the Upper School

List of 1 items.

Application Steps: Grade 9

List of 7 items.

  • Step 1: Initial Application

Complete the initial online application, and submit it with the application fee of $75. Applicants requesting Financial Aid may request a fee waiver on the application. To start the application, you will need to set up an account on our portal.

The online application is due by Friday, November 19

Supporting materials (see below steps) are due by Thursday, January 6, 2022
  • Step 2: Interview

Wait for our office to contact you to schedule an interview. As much as we would like to meet every applicant, a limited number of appointment slots makes that impossible. We do our best to accommodate families who submit applications early, but we also aim to interview a diverse pool of students and their families. This assures our success in assembling a class with diversity of gender, type of prior school (public, independent, charter, religious), race, religion, talents, interests, and more. Our commitment to building a diverse grade enhances the learning experience for everyone-- students and adults-- at Trinity.

Interviews for Grade 9 take place from September through January. We may contact you even in January to schedule an interview! Please be patient with us as we work through booking these many appointments.

If we are unable to interview your family, you will receive a refund for your application fee at the end of the admissions cycle.

You will receive details about your virtual family interview when we contact you. The entire appointment will take approximately one hour. It will be a time for us to learn about your child and family, and for you to learn and ask questions about our school. We look forward to it!
  • Step 3: Arrange for Testing

Students applying to Trinity must submit scores for the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) or the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT). The test must be taken between August 20, 2021 and January 6, 2022. Please list Trinity for scores to be released to us from the test company. Trinity’s codes are: ISEE 334090,  and SSAT 7769.  The testing companies have devised new ways of administering their tests during the pandemic, and we accept all formats  (at schools or test centers, and also remote at-home settings).
  • Step 4: Teacher Recommendations

Please ask two “major subject” teachers to fill out a recommendation form (major subject = English, history, math, science). One of your recommendations should be from a current teacher, and the other should be from your prior school year. Due date: January 6, 2022.

A third teacher recommendation can be added to your file if you choose to have one sent to us, but it is not expected or necessary.

Recommendations can be uploaded on the portal, or be sent to

*If you would like, you may submit additional letters or materials in support of your application. Please send them to application.documents5-12@trinityschoolnyc.org. Inclusion of these items is completely voluntary, and will not influence admissions decisions.
  • Step 5: Transcripts/Report Cards

Please ask your school(s) to send us your transcript/report cards for this year as each term completes, and also from last year, the entire year. We must receive these documents directly from the school-- it is not helpful for us to receive them from applicants. Use this Transcript Request Form so that your school(s) know how to send the information directly to us. Transcripts should be sent to application.documents5-12@trinityschoolnyc.org. Due date: January 6, 2022.
  • Step 6: Optional Parents' Statement

We are happy to receive a parents’ statement, if you would like to write one. If you choose to do so, you could tell us anything that will help the admissions committee know your child. You may wish to discuss why you see Trinity as a good place for your child, your child’s interests and talents, and/or your child’s experiences in school so far. Due date: at least one week prior to an interview appointment.
  • Step 7: Financial Aid Update, if necessary

If you would like to apply for Financial Aid, but did not make the request when completing the application, please notify the Admissions Office 5-12admissions@trinityschoolnyc.org, and the Financial Aid Office edith.demontebello@trinityschoolnyc.org.
