Trinity School's Financial Aid Policy

Consonant with its origins as a charity school, aligned with its mission to educate talented, motivated students who embody our city’s diversity, Trinity’s financial aid program exists to make its educational program accessible to highly qualified students, regardless of family income. In service of this commitment, Trinity offers need-based financial aid to newly-admitted students who will enrich and be enriched by our educational community. For families receiving aid, the school is also committed to underwriting the costs of required  or  essential  educational  resources, services, and opportunities not covered by tuition and to providing funds and resources to support participation in school-sponsored enrichment opportunities. In support of our commitment to students enrolled at Trinity, the school also encourages families whose financial circumstances change during their children’s school careers to be in dialogue with us about the availability of aid.

In applying our financial aid policies and practices, we will seek to be transparent and will encourage open dialogue between the school and families. Aware that the process of financial aid application requires a family to provide the school with significant personal and financial information, we are committed to exercising the greatest possible degree of sensitivity, respect, and confidentiality.

Finally, knowing that a Trinity education requires a significant investment on the part of all families and is, for many families, their single greatest financial commitment, the school is committed to stewarding its resources well, to considering carefully the impact of its budgetary decisions on families of limited means, and to communicating those decisions clearly.
- ADOPTED BY THE TRINITY SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES, JUNE 2012
We recognize the need to empower students with the means to reach their highest potential. This is why Trinity welcomes financial aid applications from all families for whom full tuition would prove difficult to provide. There is no ceiling on either family income or assets. All applications at any grade level, Kindergarten to Twelve, are examined sympathetically and thoroughly. Financial need is calculated by an analysis of a family’s financial aid application made through the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS), together with the most recent tax return(s) and supporting documentation. A cost of living index is applied to the calculations in order to offset the financial exigencies of living in New York. Awards range from a few thousand dollars to almost total aid, though all families must pay some part of the cost of a Trinity education. Many factors are considered in the awarding of aid: the number and ages of children and adults in the family, the employment status of those adults, medical expenses, and the specific circumstances of each family. Trinity’s financial aid officer works closely with each family to determine the best way to finance a Trinity education.
